Recruitment
Saturday Four-Hour Duel Club—an experimental theatre work and a real-life “battle royale” game—is about to hold its first official public beta performance!
For this public beta performance, we are recruiting six performers / players from all walks of life.
You will play six fighters, and you will also play yourselves, thrown into a brutal “Duel Club.” Every audience member will have a vote to decide which fighters stay and which leave. Of the six fighters, there will be only one winner.
What kind of fighter can survive in the “Club”? What strategy will you use to fight for your right to survive? What kind of social metaphor will the “Club” become?
We leave the answers to all these questions to you who apply: to explore, experience, and write—to tear a Dionysian wound in reality.
We need you:
We need your passion for performance, because this time we will no longer perform something false, but use a future reality to reflect the present;
We need your fiery spirit, whatever outward form that burning spirit takes;
We do not require any professional acting skills whatsoever. With real people present, performance can throw off sparks.
Whether you are an office worker on a 996 schedule—9 a.m. to 9 p.m., six days a week—a student who loves gaming, a devotee of underground subculture, a delivery rider, or a “capitalist,” any “person” is welcome to apply.
You will:
Take part in two or three workshop-style rehearsals free of charge;
Get to know the artists and performers in the project through in-depth exchanges;
And finally take part in a public performance—or game—in Beijing in mid-to-late October.
Saturday Four-Hour Duel Club is one “performance / game model” within the large-scale art project Purples. Other “performance / game / meeting” models within Purples include the “Final Solution” decision-making assembly, the “Haijiao Community” complaint forum, and the “Daliyuan” institution of fairness. Purples is a large-scale theatre / social-practice art project. It aims to create an entirely new fictional field in response to the present environment, rebuilding dialogue and reshaping social relations. With interactive theatre at its core, it designs story settings, processes, and rules. Purples hopes to help every participant release their desires, perform and act courageously, and create a new virtual world of their own with their own hands.
Project location: Chaoyang District, Beijing
